Michael Heny
Horton Vineyards
Winemaker
Gordonsville, VA
Michael Heny studied Mechanical Engineering and Comparative Literature at the University of Virginia, graduating in 1990. He soon began making wine in Virginia, experiencing firsthand the dynamic growth of an industry celebrated for distinct wines from unique grapes. He joined the winemaking team at Horton Vineyards in 1997, entranced by the promise of the flavors to be unleashed from the rolling hills of Central Virginia. To this day Mr. Heny devotes his days to protecting the zip and verve of Rkatsiteli and Albariño, preserving the aromatic richness of Viognier and Petit Manseng, expressing the berry fruit of Cabernet Franc and Nebbiolo, exploring the opaque potential of Tannat and Norton. When not crafting Horton Vineyard's award winning wines he enjoys exploring the mountains, woods and streams of central Virginia and beyond with his wife and two children.
